Feeding up Grassie for his marathon tomorrow…

The day started badly, one where you find you have a flat tyre is never good. I decided rather than fix it, I’d take my Mountain Bike, only to find that the squeaking brakes from Sunday’s race are due to the brakes (front and back!) being worn through the pads and are in need of some serious attention. So puncture fixing it was.
When I finally got to work, things didn’t get much better with more porridge explosions, and things didn’t pick up until I went out and did a decent tempo run at lunchtime, followed by soup and leftover pizza for lunch, and an interesting afternoon of work (always enjoy playing with Storify).
Despite staying late at work, the food above, leftover risotto mixed with mozzarella & breadcrumbs, then fried in more breadcrumbs, certainly topped things off nicely, and then it was off to two gigs: Fanzine & Jad Fair at the Macbeth, and DZ Deathrays at the Old Blue Last.

From Fanzine above, with their wonderful indie pop, to DZ Deathrays below and their mad thrash pop-rock:

With Fanzine on late, I was really glad I caught their blend of scuzzy early 90′s indie pop in the vein of early Teenage Fanclub I thought, certainly at the more melodic end of the scale compared to scuz contemporaries Yuck. However, this meant my plan of watching some of Jad Fair then heading to catch the end of DZ Deathrays was foiled. So I decided to do it the other way round, headed down to Old Blue Last for what proved to be a fantastic show, the dynamic drums and guitar wielding duo (yeah, basically a dfa1979 rip – listen to to Blue Blood!, from the EP Ruined my Life) bashing and blasting their way through song after song, and whipping up a decent frenzy down the front of the crowd. Really glad I saw their full set, I raced back to the Macbeth and caught the final couple of songs of Jad Fair’s set, and while I wish I’d seen more, I think I played a great game.
Head over to Bandcamp for some Fanzine downloads:
Watch this video of DZ Deathrays, all the way to the end…
they were given bottles of Jäger by fans during the set, drummer, on the left in the video, didn’t look too happy with it…
I thought Saturday’s stuffed mushrooms were pretty good, but they were pretty standard fry-up fare compared to tonight’s, which were incredible, even if I do say so myself. This time there was yet more Chorizo, but joined by Cabbage, Cheddar & Cream Cheese. Given those ingredients you can’t go too far wrong…
Fry up some onion, chorizo and the remaining mushroom, then add some cabbage (as I had to make do with, spinach was the original plan, plus I had some pepper I forgot to add) & throw in some philly cheese plus get some grated cheddar in there too for good measure. Mix then add to the baked mushrooms and stick back in the oven for a wee while longer. Yum, definitely one to make again.
